Nick Hayes

Nick Hayes is an artist, illustrator, campaigner and best selling author.

He is also a supporter of Save Weekley Hall Wood.

Nicks 2020 Sunday Times bestseller ‘The Book of Trespass‘ includes a chapter about Boughton House, The Duke of Buccleuch and the Newton Rebellion. After team member John got in contact with Nick, he donated an amazing illustration to the campaign.

We are proud to appear in Nicks newest book ‘TheTrespassers Companion‘ which features a section on our campaign and imagines a trespass at the wood (a mass trespass was later organised by Extinction Rebellion onto the Boughton House grounds!)

This stunning illustration includes the Latin word ‘Amamus’ meaning ‘We Love’.

Nick Hayes designed this with the Duke of Buccleuch in mind as a reference to the Dukes motto ‘Amo’ – meaning ‘I Love’.

Team member Dez was lucky enough to meet Nick Hayes at a conference where he and Guy Shrubsole were presenting about the Right To Roam campaign. During the Q&A session, Nick clocked Dez’ t-shirt and spoke about the Save Weekley Hall Wood campaign and Kettering. Dez can confirm that Nick is an absolutely lovely guy and a bit of a legend!

Team member John Padwick was invited on stage to talk about the Newton Rebellion and Save Weekley Hall Wood during Nick Hayes talk about the Right To Roam campaign at the Greenbelt Festival in 2022. Watch the recording here.

Greenbelt is held in the grounds of Boughton House, where Nick trespassed for the chapter on the Duke of Buccleuch in The Book of Trespass.
